Murud-Janjira Fort

Murud-Janjira Fort

Murud-Janjira is India's most unconquerable sea fort — an island fortress off the Murud coast, 50 km from Alibaug, that resisted Marathas, Portuguese, and British fleets across 350 years of naval history. Its towering 19-metre walls and 19 bastions remain largely intact. Accessible only by boat from Rajapuri jetty. A top Alibaug and Konkan coast heritage sightseeing destination. Boat charges apply; best visited October–February. One of Maharashtra's most extraordinary and dramatic historical landmarks.
