Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, is one of India's most romantic destinations, famous for its shimmering Dal Lake dotted with ornate houseboats and the exquisitely manicured Mughal Gardens. A shikhara boat ride at dawn on Dal Lake, strolls through the historic old city, and visits to the grand Jama Masjid and the floating vegetable markets are quintessential Srinagar experiences. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and fragrant saffron fields, Srinagar is the jewel of the Kashmir Valley.

1–2 hours
Glide across the mirror-calm Dal Lake in a vibrantly painted wooden Shikara (traditional Kashmiri gondola), weaving between floating gardens, lotus beds, and houseboats. Morning rides pass through the famous floating vegetable market where vendors sell fresh produce directly from their boats.

1–3 nights
Stay on one of Dal Lake's or Nagin Lake's legendary cedar-wood houseboats — intricately carved floating hotels classified from deluxe to super deluxe. Wake up to mist on the lake, take morning shikaras from your front porch, and enjoy Wazwan (Kashmiri feast) served on board.

3–4 hours (all three gardens)
Explore Srinagar's magnificent trio of Mughal gardens designed by Mughal emperors — Shalimar Bagh (garden of love, built by Jahangir for Nur Jahan), Nishat Bagh (garden of bliss, 12-terraced), and Chashme Shahi (royal spring, smallest but most pristine). Each cascades down hillsides with fountains, channels, and mountain backdrops.

1.5–2 hours
Visit the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden (Siraj Bagh) — Asia's largest tulip garden with over 1.5 million tulips in 60+ varieties blooming across terraced hillside plots against the backdrop of the Zabarwan Hills and Dal Lake. The garden opens only for 3–4 weeks in late March to April.

1–1.5 hours
Experience the unique floating vegetable, flower, and handicraft markets on Dal Lake where vendors and buyers transact entirely by Shikara boat. The early morning vegetable market (5:30–8:00 AM) is a colourful, chaotic, and deeply authentic Kashmiri cultural experience.

2–4 hours
Shop for Kashmir's world-famous hand-knotted carpets, pashmina shawls, walnut wood carvings, paper-maché items, and crewel embroidery at the government emporiums on Boulevard Road or craft clusters in old city neighbourhoods like Rajouri Kadal and Nowhatta.
