Rumi Darwaza is Lucknow's most iconic landmark — a magnificent 18-metre Nawabi gateway built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula in imitation of the Sublime Porte of Constantinople. The ornate yellow-plastered arch, elaborate stucco decorations, and the lotus and umbrella finials are extraordinary examples of Awadhi architecture. Located beside the Bara Imambara, it appears on every Lucknow tourism image and is the symbol of Nawabi heritage, culture, and the City of Nawabs's golden age.
