Venna Lake — a man-made reservoir at the heart of Mahabaleshwar — is the town's most beloved social hub. Pedal boats, rowboats, and speed boats ply its calm waters while the forested lakeshore provides a pleasant walking circuit. In the late afternoon, the lake reflects the surrounding hills in beautiful pinks and purples, and the stalls around the perimeter dish up freshly made corn, bhutta, and local snacks. It's relaxed, romantic, and thoroughly enjoyable.
Avoid the lake on Sunday afternoons — it gets extremely busy. A weekday visit or early morning walk around the lake is a far more peaceful experience.
