Katra
An easy 90-minute drive from Katra, Patnitop is a beautiful meadow plateau at 2,024 metres that is entirely different in character from the pilgrimage city below — snow-covered in winter, green and wildflower-filled in summer, and offering views of the Chenab valley and surrounding Himalayan ranges that are genuinely spectacular. It is the perfect half-day escape for non-pilgrims or as a second-day excursion.
The Nathatop summit above Patnitop (accessible by road or short hike) has even better 360-degree mountain views. Carry warm clothes regardless of what Katra weather suggests — altitude makes a significant difference.
