Katra
Halfway up the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage trail, the sacred cave of Ardh Kwari is where Mata Rani is said to have meditated for nine months before the encounter with Bhairavnath. The narrow cave passage — pilgrims must crawl through a 30-metre slot in the rock — is one of the most viscerally memorable experiences on the entire pilgrimage, and the small cave shrine at the far end has an atmosphere of remarkable peace.
The cave passage requires crawling in a low position for about 30 metres — not recommended for those with severe claustrophobia or mobility limitations. Most pilgrims find it deeply meaningful despite the physical challenge.
