Doodhpathri
Doodhpathri, meaning 'Valley of Milk', is named after the milk-white Doodhganga streams that flow through its vast, flat alpine meadows — and walking barefoot through these cold, crystal-clear streams across flower-carpeted grasslands is one of the most blissfully peaceful experiences in all of Kashmir. The meadow is 8,957 feet above sea level and ringed by pine forests and distant snow peaks, creating a pastoral paradise that is almost entirely free of commercialisation.
The grass meadows are most vibrantly green and the wildflowers most abundant in June and July. Visit on a weekday to have the meadow almost entirely to yourself — it is still largely off the mainstream tourist circuit.
