Chikmagalur
Kudremukh, meaning 'horse face' in Kannada, is one of the most beautiful treks in the Western Ghats and a crown achievement for trekkers visiting Chikmagalur. The 24-km round trek through grasslands, shola patches, and rolling emerald ridges leads to a summit shaped like a horse's face when viewed from a distance. The biodiversity of Kudremukh National Park — one of the richest in peninsular India — makes every step of this trek a natural history lesson.
This trek is only allowed with a licensed forest guide booked through the Kudremukh Forest Department. Leeches are abundant in the forest — wear leech socks from October to December.
