Black Beach (Kappil Beach)

Black Beach in Varkala — also called Odayam Beach — is a dramatic, uncrowded black-sand beach just north of Varkala Cliff, accessible by a short walk along the cliff edge. The dark volcanic sand, strong waves, dramatic rock formations, and the absence of shacks and crowds make it a favourite for photographers and solitude-seekers. One of Kerala's most unusual and photogenic beaches. The Black Beach viewpoint at dusk, with waves crashing over black rocks, is spectacular.
