Banganga is the first sacred stop on the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route from Katra — a holy stream created by Mata Vaishno Devi's arrow striking the ground to provide water for her devotees, according to legend. The beautiful bridge and ghat here are where pilgrims take a ritual bath before beginning the yatra. The first yatra registration checkpoint is located at Banganga. A spiritually significant and scenic 1.5 km walk from Katra on the way to the Vaishno Devi Bhavan.
